6 Benefits of Cultured & Fermented Foods & Drinks
As we have learned, 70% of our immune system is found in our gut or our G.I. tract.
Within the walls of our gut, should live a large community of billions and billions of beneficial bacteria and when this community is supported with a healthy source of nutrients, it establishes a strong and balanced immune system.
In turn, we also benefit with high levels of energy, vibrancy and a youthful glow to name a few.
When it is imbalanced, because of a lack of nutritional support and/or unhealthy bacteria overgrowth, then it not only affects how we look and feel, but also leaves us open to attack of unhealthy bacteria & microbes, parasites, fungus, illness and disease.
We have learned several steps to help identify possible imbalance in our own bodies and how we can begin to heal from the Core, such as:
And, as we continue to build on healing, approach this new tool as you have all the others. Consider the tools that you have put into practice, and reconfirm what your personal goals are.
If you feel that you have developed a good routine and you’re ready for the next step, then consider these next tools as another layer of healing. If not, listen anyway and bank it until you’re ready!
The tip for this month, is about introducing Cultured or Fermented Foods and/or Drinks (CFF/D) into your diet, this will be one more dynamic way to heal from the Core and boost your beneficial bacteria and build optimal digestion!
Let’s take a look at 6 reasons why you will want to consider adding CFF/D into your personal healing toolkit:
1. Healing Leaky Gut & Weight Loss
CFF/D helps to protect the lining of our gut and assist in the repair of leaky gut.
Leaky gut develops from the food that we eat, by ingesting processed, overcooked and nutrient defficient foods. This is made worse, when pathogens and unwanted foreign bodies enter into our body with every bite. This not only starves out the healthy microflora but also feeds the unwanted invaders.
Over time, this can cause issues in the mucosa, weaken the integrity of the protective walls of our gut and develop what is known as leaky gut.
So it only stands to reason, that introducing friendly bacteria and choosing nutrient dense foods will build and support a thriving immune system.
Since a leaky gut puts our body in a chronically inflammatory state, which causes our body to store fat, then our goal is to heal the inflammatory state of leaky gut and to wake up our immune system so our body will let go of unwanted fat.
Introducing CFF/D is a powerful way to accomplish this!
2. Supports Digestion & Balances Stomach Acid
As we begin to balance our eco system and repopulate with healthy bacteria, we are also improving our digestion.
CFF/D contain abundant levels of lactic acid, minerals, enzymes and vitamins which support overall digestive health.
CFF/D are predigested, making them extremely easy to digest as well as assisting in digestion of the raw foods that we eat.
Many of us suffer from too little or too much stomach acid also have difficulties digesting our food and extracting the nutritional benefits, even from nutritiously packed meals.
Adding CFF/D, can balance stomach acid levels which will boost our digestive enzymes and improve digestion. For those of us who suffer from too little, by increasing the acidicity of our gastric juices and for those of us who produce too much, it will help by protecting our stomach and intestinal lining and neutralize the high acidic levels.
3. Aids in Nutrient Absorption and Elimination
CFF/D improves the production and benefits of digestive juices and enzymes by hundreds of times, which supports predigestion and better absorption of nutrients, vitamins and minerals in the food that we eat.
The healthy microbes that are in our CFF/D also ingests toxins within our gut and produces lactic acid that creates a hostile environment for harmful bacteria and promotes peristalsis (the squeezing action that promotes beneficial elimination of the bowels), and alleviates constipation.
4. Supports & Promotes Growth of Healthy Bacteria
The healthy bacteria introduced with CFF/D are resistant to our highly corrosive stomach acid, allowing them to begin working immediately.
CFF/D also contain varieties of cultures that are alive and active due to the fact that they have never been introduced to heat. This makes them more potent than the supplements that are factory produced and may have been damaged by heat.
CFF/D also contain the essential food (prebiotics) that the probiotics need to help them populate and colonize, which cannot be adequalty manufactured within a probiotic supplement.
5. Helps to Control Cravings
- Antibodies that are searching for enemy foods
- Parasite & fungus overpopulation
- Food addictions (i.e. caffeine, sugar and alcohol)
- Cellular & microflora deficiencies
- Inefficient digestion
- Adrenal fatigue
When we nourish our healthy microflora/bacteria and cells, then the cravings that we develop for processed foods or drinks that we once were addicted to, diminish.
Cultured foods not only nourish our healthy bacteria and cells, but the sour taste of CFF/D actually helps us to kick the habit of sugar and processed foods even quicker.
The healthy bacteria that we introduce thru fermented foods/drinks will also gobble up the sugars that we may be struggling to give up, which will protect us from the sugar highs and lows while benefitting the microflora, and before you know it, we no longer are craving those foods.
6. Creates an Alkaline pH
Everything we ingest creates an acidic or alkaline pH.
An acidic pH creates an environment that supports disease and specifically cancer an alkaline pH.
We will learn more about pH in an upcoming post, but the take away today, is that fermented foods help to balance our pH (balanced pH should be 7 on the pH scale).
Whether it’s called Cultured or Fermented it’s the same thing, and just one serving of a CFF/D per day, can greatly reduce an acidic pH.
Some great CFF/D to consider:

People all around the world have been benefitting from cultured foods for 1000’s of years and although the American diet, is not known for a specific cultured foods, it’s never too late to find one that we like and incorporate them into our lifestyle!
Cultured Foods are going to heal your Core and help you loose what you’ve gained and gain what you’ve lost!
